In May, we continued to quarantine.
Here's how we entertained ourselves at home.
BYU's women's conference had some live streams.
I watched the intro part. The first two talks were really good.
This panel discussion was OK, but all of the responses
were scripted, which felt very stiff to me.
Our latest Lego set was a 3-in-1 Townhouse.
We LOVED this first version.
It's a toy store on the bottom with an apartment on the top.
One of our favorite parts was this moving rocket ride.
We decided to start a new tradition:
Order in on Friday nights.
B got to choose our first restaurant: Chipotle,
which all of us LOVE.
So good!
And I love having another night where I don't have to cook.
B-train finished his first year of college!
So proud of this kid.
The second semester didn't end the way he wanted.
And he wasn't happy with his online courses.
But he plugged through and made it.
Woo hoo!
More Gerbera daisy blooms.
They make me SO happy.
Also, I think my hydrangea bush is going to bloom for the first time.
Exciting!
We continue to have home worship every Sunday.
We take turns giving talks,
Andrew and Brandon give us the sacrament,
we sing a hymn,
and we do our Come, Follow Me study for the day.
We love having Andrew around more on Sundays.
In general, we haven't done a whole lot of quarantine
baking, but we decided to indulge this week.
I made us Cindy's yummy homemade Oreos.
Delicious!
For FHE treats, B made us Scotcheroos,
a recipe from Grandma Hiatt.
I loved them. Why haven't I made them before?
Cinco de Mayo!
I always make sure we have homemade tortillas on this day.
Whitney added to our Mexican tradition and made us
Dulce de Leche cake. It was AMAZING.
Hilarious.
Several months (a year?) ago, I found these pickleball
paddles on sale at Ollie's and bought them.
They've been sitting in my garage, unopened ever since.
Amy and Dave recently posted about playing pickleball in their
driveway. I decided it was time to bust our out.
It has been SO fun. Everyone in the family enjoys it.
(Except Whit, who just tolerates it when we make her play.
Duane's syndrome affects your depth perception and she struggles.)
The kids have been cooking one night a week
and it is THE BEST!
Caroline made us tacos one night.
She did great!
Game night: Codenames
Brandon and Caroline are so cute together.
I love their sweet relationship.
One night, he introduced her to MMA.
No one else had any interest in watching,
but the two of them sat on the couch
cheering on their favorite fighters.
Mother's Day 2020
Everyone cooperated for a family photo shoot.
As usual, the family did a great job spoiling me.
Whit made me this cool musical flower bouquet.
We played games all afternoon.
My favorite!
I had people sign up for the games they wanted to join in.
It made me happy that they were willing to play so many.
Andrew was the only one up for Ticket to Ride. Ha!
Cover Your Assets
Qwixx
25 Words or Less
Ended with a family walk around the neighborhood.
It started off so nice and the weather was beautiful.
It ended with Caroline knocking B's phone to the ground
with her volleyball and his phone breaking. Ugh.
Some of the wildlife I see around the lake.
Cool sidewalk chalk art.
Pickleball
After several attempts, Andrew was finally
able to trap the stupid squirrel in our attic!
He drove it far, far away and let it go in a field.
We hoped that would resolve the problem,
but there was another one up there that he caught a few days later.
Haven't heard their scurrying since then.
Fingers crossed that it is done!
More at-home PE assignments. So fun.
The second build from our lego set: a flower shop.
Had a zoom call with my preschool friends.
So fun to catch up with them.
More daisies!
I think I have more blooms this year than I've ever had!
We organized a couple of on-line game nights.
We played with Amy and Dave's family one night and
Tony Cindy on another.
There was a little bit of lag, but it was still so fun to play with them.
As my Mother's Day present from B,
he ordered dinner in for a date night
for Andrew and me.
The kids were our servers and got everything set up.
We ordered from a place we'd never tried,
Sarah's Kabob Shop.
It was REALLY good.
Sunday afternoon Harry Potter trivia with the girls.
My favorite game on B's Switch:
Tetris 99.
I came in 5th place!
That's the highest I've gotten so far!
ESPN made a documentary about Michael
Jordan's last season with the Bulls, called
The Last Dance.
With no live sports on TV, we couldn't
WAIT to watch this show!
It was fantastic.
Such a fun walk down memory lane.
We were reminded what an unbelievably
amazing athlete MJ was.
And also learned that he was kind of a jerk.
Ummmm.... We saw a raccoon in our backyard.
When it was still daylight outside.
That's creepy....
Since all of the Marvel superhero movies
are on Disney+, we've started watching
them in order with the girls.
There are just a few scenes we need to skip.
It has been fun and will probably take
a lot of the summer to finish up.
One night, I made us this caramel corn
to eat while we watched. Yum!
I finished my first scarf!
I like the color, but the yarn isn't very soft...
I like the color, but the yarn isn't very soft...
too bad I bought three huge skeins of it online....
One of the projects the girls and I decided
to work on in quarantine:
making plastic bag mats for the homeless.
My friend, Stacey, from church came to our
house to teach us how to make them and
to let us borrow a loom.
So grateful she could take her evening to come
teach us. It was so fun to visit with her and we're
looking forward to upcycling our grocery
sacks into something that will bless others.
Look at all those daisies!
Geocaching date night!
We hiked near Lake Townsend.
Gorgeous.
On Memorial Day,
we took the girls up to Quarry Lake Park,
near Winston-Salem.
Perfect for a little hike/walk.
We found a cache out there, too.
Our neighbor texted to let us know that we had a cool
turtle in our backyard.
It's blooming!
Love it!
After having B home for a month and a half,
he found out that the climbing gym was opening
back up, so he was ready to move back to St. George.
We LOVED having him home.
He is so fun to hang out with.
We decided to buy the Switch from him.
He was going to sell it online and we wanted one anyway,
so it worked out well for everyone. :)
I ventured out to the store for the first time to get some
last-minute items for Care Bear's birthday.
It's weird!
Over half of the customers wear masks.
Most stores have installed plexiglass barriers
between you and the cashier.
Everything has to be wiped down between customers.
The aisles are supposed to be one-way so that
you can maintain social distancing.
(It doesn't seem to work great...)
Celebrated C's 12th birthday!
B-train got her these cool new headphones.
She wanted to go shopping at Five Below
in the morning. She found some shades that she liked.
Dinner: STEAKS.
Played some Jackbox games as a family that night.
She requested an ice cream cake for dessert.
I got it from Cold Stone and it was amazing.
And tiny.
Love watching this girl grow up.
I got to witness the circle of life in the lake on one of my walks.
It took A LOT of bags, but we finished our first mat!
We donated it to Open Door Ministries in High Point.
They distribute them to the homeless population in the area.
More blooms on the hydrangea.
Love, love, love.
