What February Looked Like

 Oh, darn.
Last time I posted, Blogger actually put my photos
in the order that I wanted. But now it's back to reverse
order. Let's go through the month, starting at the end, shall we?

Andrew did the BEST financial literacy workshop
for the girls. He taught them about investing in mutual
funds and compared that to investing in individual stocks.
It was GREAT.
Then we gave them both a little bit of money in
a custodial account so they can start figuring out
how to invest now. Love it.

Greensboro Parks and Rec is doing a "Parks Passport"
where you can visit twenty different parks around town,
fill in the blanks on some haikus they have written,
and submit your passport to win a prize pack.
I'm sure the prize pack is nothing fancy,
but I love stuff like this!
So Andrew and I have started.
Since he can't play tennis right now because
of his achilles tendonitis, we've been visiting
parks for most of our date nights. Lots of fun.

Andrew has also decided he'd like to take up
fishing as a new hobby this year. He has spent
LOTS of time on YouTube learning about it.
He bought a rod and has gone out a few times.
So far he hasn't caught anything, but he
enjoys relaxing and being out in nature.

The girls had a Friday off this month while all the teachers
got their COVID vaccines. Andrew had already
requested that day off to use some of his vacation time.
So we went on an adventure to Burlington.
This is the "Heart of Burlington" and lots of couples
place locks here to commemorate engagements,
weddings, and anniversaries.
Cute.

I knitted hats and scarves for the three of us!
But they aren't very cozy.
And the yarn is a bit itchy.
The girls don't love them.
But don't we look cute together? :)

Someone is WAY into the Marvel universe.
We saw this SHIELD car parked while
we were exploring Burlington.

We ate at the Lost Cajun.
Yummy beignets for desserts.
I made such a mess with my powdered sugar.
Not good to eat while laughing!

Andrew and I got catfish, Whit got etouffee (which
she LOVED and is still craving a week later...),
Caroline got chicken tenders and fries.

They sell lobster bisque!!
When you first sit down, the server brings you
a cutting board with six little sample cups with
each of these items listed under "Classics."
Such a great idea, so you know what you're ordering!
None of us liked the lobster bisque.
But everything else was yummy.

We also visited the Textile Heritage Museum,
which is on the Glencoe Mill property,
just outside of Burlington.
These were the employee houses.
They are so cute.

Some of the plaids they made there.

One of the cool old looms.

A whole slew of vintage stuff.

We took a little walk by the Haw River,
which they used to run the mill.

Cool little waterfall.

These were all the veggies left at the end of dinner one night.
Ha!

I love getting random photos from B,
like this one with his arm PUMPED at work.

I thought my hand looked pumped while we were sitting in church.
Not as impressive...

Our younger YW were in charge of planning the activities in Feb.
One week we decorated the driveways of our
bishopric members.
I remember the YW doing this for Andrew many
years ago when he was Bishop. It was so sweet.

Wanted to share that love with our current Bishopric.

We had a pretty good turnout, the weather
cooperated, and it was a fun activity.

Another park-finding date.

We had a couple of ice storms in Feb.

Luckily they weren't too bad.

They looked pretty,
but didn't last long.

Some parts of town lost power,
but we were fortunate to keep ours.

My second finished hat!
I was so happy with the way the brim turned out.

Our at-home candlelight Valentine's dinner.

One date night this month was exploring the area around Asheboro.
Jose is a member of our stake.
He joined the church as a young adult,
the only member of his family a few years ago.
He reminds me so much of my brother, Paul,
so he has become my adopted brother out here.

His mom runs a restaurant, La Casita, in Asheboro.
We stopped there for dinner.
It was so good!
And fun to visit with Jose.
And we got to meet his younger brother,
Louis, who joined the church this year. So cool!

We stopped by Pisgah covered bridge.

This graffiti reminded me of Kaws, which made me think of B.

We went on a short hike near the bridge.

In another month, this will be so pretty.
I'm ready for spring!

Also near Asheboro, they have a little Aviation Museum.
It was a great!

We loved learning about the history flight in this area.

There were some full-sized planes, as well as some cute little ones.
I thought the most fascinating part was about the Preddy brothers,
who were fighter pilots during WWII. The older brother was an ace
and had the most take-downs of any pilot in his particular model of plane.
Both brothers died in the war.
One was taken down by friendly fire.
So sad.

We also visited a historic open-air tabernacle called
"John Wesley's Stand."
They used to hold church meetings here starting in 1903.

More icy trees.

Kinda hard to tell with the cloudy sky.

My first hat!

The brim on this one didn't turn out quite right.
It was my first time trying the knit/perl pattern.
I got better the second time.

For our combined activity in Feb,
we decorated sugar cookies.
The kids got to decorate one for themselves to eat
and a second to give away to someone.
They wrote notes for the person they were giving it to.

It also went really well.

The only thing I would've done differently is giving
away more cookies at the end. I didn't realize how many
were left over. I should've had them decorate more than two each!

Almost done with the first hat...

A little dusting of snow.

One of Caroline's goals for the Children and Youth Program
was to cook FIFTEEN different meals.
It was SO fun to have her try new things.
She is a good little cook!
I think this was lemon flounder with candied carrots...

Stacey and I won our racquets and jackets league!
Woo hoo!
I didn't take any pictures of us together. Boo.
This is a casual winter league.
We tried to play together last winter,
but no other teams signed up in our division.
This year, there were only three teams.
It's a fun format. You play one court of doubles, just one set.
Then you split up and play a set of singles.
Stacey and I like both singles and doubles, so it was perfect for us.
And we pretty much kicked butt! Woot!
We went 7-1 on the season and won the whole thing.
Hooray!
No trophies or trips to state for this league, though.
We just cheered for ourselves at the end. ha!

For another of Caroline's CYP goals, she decided she wanted to
ride a bike 10 miles, over the course of a month or two.
But she has outgrown her bike.
So she was going to use my old bike.
Which is old.
And had a flat tire.
Even after we pumped it up.
So, she and I got to change our first bike tire.
It was quite an adventure.
I lost some blood.
And thought I broke a pinky.
But after some help from YouTube,
we got it done!
But it's still an old, creaky, lame bike.
I think I need to just buy her a new one...
