What March Looked Like

 I present March!
In reverse order... Boo...
Bless our hearts for trying, but our little veggie plot in the backyard is just too shady to grow much of anything. I had high hopes of taking out the shrubs on the side of the house this year and putting in raised beds... But it took too long. And it was time to plan if we were going to plant. So, we just bought a few containers and put them on the side of the house. We have tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and lettuce... We'll see if anything grows.

One random Saturday morning, Caroline brought us waffles in bed!
What a sweetheart!

We had some BEAUTIFUL march weather and
went for neighborhood family walks.

And now that the weather is finally warming up, we
busted out my telescope again! We're getting better at using it.

Brandon with his "wife", Megan.
He broke up with Sadie.
And apparently him and Megan aren't actually dating,
but they're going to get married....
not sure how that works.

Popcorn trees!

Lots of turtles sunbathing at the lake.

Our decks are in bad shape.
I called for a quote to have the big one by the house re-finished
and it was two thousand dollars.
So I asked for a second quote.
And it was also two thousand dollars.
Which seemed like SO MUCH.
So, I let them continue deteriorating for the last two or three years.
Ha!
But this year, I decided it was FINALLY time to do something!
The back deck by the shed.
Andrew fixed and painted the spindles several years ago,
but nothing has ever been done with the horizontal boards.

They were in pretty bad shape.

I busted out the pressure washer.
And scrubbed away.

It looked better after just being washed!
The weather didn't cooperate very well.
The deck has to be dry for two straight days before you stain.
And it kept raining every couple of days.
But eventually, I got to do it.

I bought a paint sprayer to do the spindles.
That made them pretty easy.

Since the wood was in pretty bad shape, I had to buy the
stain that can help fill in cracks.
It's super thick and textured.
You have to manually start filling in the cracks before you
use the roller to put the rest of the stain on.
It was time consuming, but also satisfying.

It started raining just as I was finishing up, even though
there was no rain in the forecast! Agh!
I was so upset! I thought my hours and hours of work
had gone to waste!
Andrew and I built this little makeshift tent to try to protect it.

And, luckily, it seems to have worked just fine. Hooray!

Such an improvement!

For YW one night, we had Nick and Shayna do a
painting activity for us.
Nick taught us a few basic techniques and then we
were just free to do whatever we wanted.

It was so much fun!

Whitney painted this creepy meme cat called Bingus.
I don't like that cat. He creeps me out.
Now I randomly find Bingus hiding throughout the house.
Like in the microwave! Ha!

More pretty popcorn trees.

Whitney made us ratatouille one night for dinner.
It was delicious and beautiful!

B came in second place in a climbing comp at his gym!

I also started working on the big deck off the house.
Poor, neglected deck.

It was in pretty bad shape.

And you don't realize how big it is until you have to cover
every single surface with stain. :)

Pressure washing is so satisfying.

It was dirty!

I organized a virtual group date with the stake presidency
to play Psych! There were some technical difficulties.
And not everyone liked the game. But it was fun
hanging out with them, especially since the wives never
get to see each other.

Care Bear's amazing pork shop, asparagus, rolls, and salad.

Pi day!

Geocaching/scavenger hunt date.

Love these pink trees!

The Parks and Rec dept sponsored a chalk walk at the Arboretum.

Whitney entered with a Phineas and Ferb drawing. Fun!

Here were some of the other cool drawings:

GUFI had another volunteer opportunity,
so Caroline and I headed back to the greenhouse to
plant more seeds and transplant some of the seeds
we planted last time.

It was fun to see how much they have grown in two months!

We've talked for a while about wanting to get into a
recording studio to record Sweat Family Harmony.
When I saw a groupon for a recording session, I bought it!
We had two hours in the studio.
It went by way too fast.
We recorded White Winter Hymnal as a family.

Then Whit recorded two solos.
Too bad I can't figure out how to share our audio files on here....

B shared these climbing pics with me.

What a lucky kid to be living in such a climbing mecca!

I thought this was hilarious that we got
a three-way tie for first place in Psych.

More Parks and Rec scavenger hunting.
That made for some fun date nights.
We finished and I'm anxiously awaiting our prize pack!

Also found a cool geocache along the way.

At the beginning of March, movie theaters still weren't
open because of the pandemic. But, you could rent out
a private showing for up to 20 people for $100. We decided
to invite three other families and each pitch in $25.
It was so fun!

We watched Croods 2.
Our choices were limited and we had young kids with us.
But it was pretty good, actually.

So fun!

After having the Switch for almost a year, I FINALLY
beat Tetris 99 for the first time! Yes!!!

My daffodils bloomed.
They make me so happy.

After being turned down for low iron the last two
times I tried, I was so happy to finally be approved
to donate blood this month.

I bought this book years ago and then never read it.
After watching RootsTech and being inspired to reminisce about
my hometown, I finally broke it open.

It was a fun little read.
And it was cool to see Marianne's dad on the Acknowledgements page.

Whit continues to get commissions through her PaperMint Co social media pages.
She recently bought some sticker paper.
I had her design a road trip sticker for me.
Love it!
