Spring Break 2022: Greenville

Since it's Whitney's senior year, she got to choose what to do for spring break this year. Way back in the fall, she chose Disney. I was so excited. We haven't been to Disney since 2015. But then after spending two days in Dollywood at a day at Carowinds over Christmas break, she said, "I kinda wish I had chosen something different than Disney..." I told her I could still get a refund for the AirBnB and hadn't bought our tickets yet. So she decided she'd rather go on a cruise. Yippee!

HOWEVER... that was right when COVID cases were going back up. Ugh. And even though I was pretty confident that US would be Ok by April, I wasn't sure what the COVID situation might be like in other countries that we visited... I was a little too hesitant. Darn. So I told her to choose something else that was domestic.

Her third choice was to travel around to watch a couple Broadway shows. How fun is that? We did our research and found two nearby that she wanted to see: Frozen in Greenville, SC and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in Charleston. So, we planned our week of spring break around those two shows and did a little southern road trip. It was SO MUCH FUN.

We left on a Saturday and it happened to be Whitney's birthday!
Woo hoo!
There was an arts festival going on in downtown Charlotte,
so we stopped there on the way.

We got to listen to an acoustic guitarist.
We had the place basically to ourselves.

Cute mini golf

They had food trucks around, so each of was happy.
I got THE BEST vegetarian pizza, Whit got cajun,
and Andrew and C found a Chipotle.

Fun swings

And spinny tops

And teeter totters

How long had it been since I'd been on one of those???

Sister photo shoot

There was an exhibit of giant Easter eggs
decorated in fun and interesting ways.
We had so much fun walking around.
We also stopped at a little farmer's market there.

Then we continued driving down to Greenville.
We've been there a couple times, but mostly just passing through.
We haven't spent a lot of time there.
It is such a cool city!
They have waterfalls right in the middle of downtown!
What?!
We got dressed to head to Frozen, but got there a bit
early, so the girls and I walked down to check out the falls.

Birthday girl!

18!
She's an adult!

Cute sisters

Love hanging out with these two.
Poor Andrew's heel is improving, but it's SUCH a
slow recovery. He wasn't up for walking around with us.

More fun pics while we waited for the show to start.

Ready for the show!

Playbills in hand.

Greenville's theater is called the Peace Center.
I had taken the kids there one other time to watch
Lion King at the beginning of the road trip.
The show was 90% FANTASTIC!
The special effects were amazing.
Magical.
The songs were SPECTACULAR.
The only part that I hated was after admission,
they had a whole scene about "hygge" and the
dancers are wearing skin-colored leotards to make it look
like they're dancing around naked while holding items
to strategically cover up certain areas.
Seriously?
It's a kid's show.
Lame.

We stayed at a Drury hotel.
It was THE BEST. Not only do they offer a good free breakfast
in the morning, they also serve hot dinner at night! For free.
Score!
We ate there both nights that we stayed and were happy with it.

The next day was Easter Sunday.
We went to church in Simpsonville.
It was nice.
Andrew is working with a Bishop who had an emergency
call, so the girls and I did an Easter photo shoot
while he was helping resolve some issues.
Cute girls

In matchy dresses

Happy Easter!

After church, we drove around to see some of
the historic homes in Greenville.
Wowza.
They were impressive.
This one is my favorite!
The Lanneau-Norwood-Funderburk House

After dinner, we went back down to Falls Park with Drew.
Whitney always loves to dip her toes in the water

We brought a few games with us and had fun playing
Qwixx, which we hadn't played in a while.

A particularly high scoring game. Woot.

On Monday, as we were leaving town,
we stopped at Top Golf.

Caroline wasn't interested in golfing,
but the other three of us had a great time.
It was chilly!
Not what we expected in SC in April!

And it was windy!

As we were driving to our next destination,
we stopped at the super cute little town of Newberry, SC.
I didn't realize that a lot of the stores would be closed
on a Monday. Boo.

But it was still a great place to stretch our
legs and we did find a couple of cute stores open.

One of the stores had a random
stuffed warthog with bunny ears. Ha!
