Will I ever catch up on this blog???
That remains to be seen. But I'm going to keep chugging along because I don't want to stop! :)
Bird walk with the bird club at Haw River State Park,
Iron Ore Access Belt.
Isn't that the strangest name?
But it has great birds!
Like this cute indigo bunting
And this awesome Pileated woodpecker.
Fun tennis date night with Drew.
Junior prom for Caroline!
She went with friends this year:
Savannah, Abigail, and Julia
Cute girls!
They had a great time.
Date night at Cross Ties in Thomasville. So good.
I went to a session of C's silks practice.
Grabbed a couple photos.
She's so good!
Carolina Theatre had a sing-a-long showing
of The Sound of Music. It was SO DANG FUN.
Why aren't there more of these?
Rebecca met me there and we loved it.
We didn't know we were supposed to wear costumes,
but some of the other viewers did.
It's the time of the year for baby animals.
Always so cute.
My last tennis match of the season and I got
to play with Julie--one of my favorites!
And we won! Yippee.
Baby ducks
Northern flicker on the side of the road
Birding with Drew at the Botanical Gardens
We found a new car for Caroline!
Yippee!
She LOVES her little 2010 Toyota Corolla.
Taking her first drive in it. Bye!
Fun mixed doubles organized by Kelly.
Always a treat.
And out for pizza afterward.
My mother's day gift from Whit:
"It's us as teeth"
I love it so much!
We had a virtual game night with the kids.
Whit always destroys us in the drawing games.
So funny.
No surprise--Whitney won!
My annual request:
Vegetable lasagna, salad, and breadsticks.
With strawberry shortcake with farm fresh
strawberries for dessert.
B was in the dark,
but there's our virtual family
Mother's Day photo.
Top Golf date night!
Always a great time.
It was the first time we'd been to the
one here in Greensboro. I thought
we would go regularly, but we haven't yet.
Fun youth activity--
camping olympics
Care Bear killed the fire-starting contest.
My new operatory!
Isn't it pretty?
And check out these crazy clouds
when I left work one day.
Also renewed my passport!
Yippee!
Ready for 10 more years of international travel!
Super fun bird walk with the bird club out at
Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve.
Two species highlights:
Red-cockaded woodpecker
Common nighthawk
Also saw other cool things like this butterfly
And snake.
It was my first time to this place.
Loved it.
Caroline got a job!
Woo hoo!
After getting rejected from a couple of
places and feeling discouraged, she was
thrilled to be hired at the Chick-fil-a by
Palladium. She's following in the footsteps of
Whitney and some cousins--
I remember Ethan and Reagan for sure.
Doesn't this dinner look yummy?
I love roasted veggies and chicken.
My friend, Maureen, gave us a cutting
from her raspberry bush that we planted.
We're reaping our first harvest!
I absolutely LOVE fresh raspberries!
For the bird club summer social, we got
to go to the science center and have a short little
encounter with the penguins!
They're so cute!
We got free admission to the science center,
which we never go to anymore, so we
looked around a bit.
The okapi is a family favorite.
It was mentioned in an old Dora the Explorer
book that Andrew would read with the kids.
He called it an "oka-pod" and we thought that was hilarious.
This giant cassowary statue is cool and creepy.
Do you see the bright green eggs on the ground?
They actually lay eggs similar to that color!
The flamingoes are so pretty!
That same weekend Marianne and Patrick
were in town for a feis for Eden. Yay!
Caroline came to watch some of the dancing.
She hadn't seen it before.
It's a whole world unto itself.
I love watching Eden.
Such a cool art form.
She's usually the smallest in her age group,
but always does well.
With some of her prizes.
Caroline watched Eden that evening so the adults
could go out to dinner. Yummy Thai food.
And we always love a good game night when they're in town!
Monopoly Deal, Herd Immunity, Just One
Relief Society Temple Trip with Jean and Deidre.
Our numbers were small, but it was so nice to have
time in the temple with these two.
On the drive home, we crossed paths with a turtle in the road.
Deidre demanded that we pull over and she helped it across
the road. It was a busy road! She's kinda crazy!
That weekend, it was back to the temple for baptisms with Caroline.
Love spending time worshipping with my family!
One of my students at NAI
wrote my name in Pashto.
The Aagards came to town!
We stopped by Shana's house to have a quick visit
with them. We were SO close for the years that they
lived here, but our paths have gone in quite different
directions and we just don't have as much in common
as we used to. I'm still happy we got to visit with them for a bit.
Went to City Lake Park to see the
Great Blue Heron rookery.
So cool to see them up in the trees.
Dinner at Sweet Old Bills
May is a great month for bird walks!
Took my third walk of the month.
This one was at the zoo.
Super small turnout--just Jim, Dave, and me.
Grace is a zoo employee who was leading us.
She is awesome and I love her.
I told B that I want him to marry her,
not necessarily because the two of them would
be a great pair, but because I want her in the family!
Ha ha ha!
I got a new lifer on that trip--Orchard Oriole.
B bought a motorcycle.
Insert crying emoji face here!
I'm a pretty laid-back mom, but it makes me
VERY nervous to have that kid driving this around.
Even if he's smart with it, there are too many risks.
And too many bad drivers around.
The hummers are back!
Love them!
On one of the beautiful May days,
Caroline set up her fencing outside
and took Bumble and Scoot out there to
get some fresh air.
Fun!?
For Memorial Day weekend,
we headed up to the mountains.
I wanted to go hiking at Stone Mountain.
Ummmm....this doesn't bode well for our hike...
We took a rain delay and stopped by the
Blue Ridge Music Center. They had a band
playing out there. They were good.
What a name--
Galax Bogtrotters!
Old time jubilations!
We had fun learning about mountain music in their little museum.
And Caroline liked buying a stuffed possum.
After that, the rain had stopped, so we started our hike.
The possum came along.
But, alas, the rain returned. Boo.
C and her possum sought shelter!
We gave up and headed back to the car.
The Mountain Laurels were in bloom.
So pretty!
CAROLINE'S A DANCING QUEEN!
YOUNG AND SWEET, ONLY SEVENTEEN!
She and I spent the day together.
Started off with brunch at Chez Genese.
Our favorite!
Then stopped by the cat cafe nearby.
Stopped by crumbl to get her birthday cookie.
Got our annual birthday pedicures!
Dinner at C's choice:
Chipotle
Followed by cheesecake at home.
Her gift this year: Airpods.
She also got cute hair accessories
Lip product
Good-smelling hair products
A monogram travel jewelry box
And a whole collection of B&BW
products from Brianna--so thoughtful!
And we ended the month with her friend party here at home.
Bella, Wenda, Abigail, and Julia
Happy birthday, sweet girl!
Stuffed capybara--perfect!
