Celeste and Destiny drove in. Celeste had recently finished a work assignment in New Mexico and is now moving to North Carolina. (Yay!) So the two of them drove to Galveston together. I flew in to Houston.
I like window seats because I still have a child-like fascination with looking out the window.
But it's lame to book a window seat THAT DOESN'T ACTUALLY HAVE A WINDOW.
What the heck?
I got robbed.
I also rented a car.
It was my first time. I was surprised at how expensive it is. It cost about the same as my flight. Sheesh. When I went to pick it up, the guy said I could choose from these two cars in my size range. One was a black Jaguar. The other was a gray Chrysler 300. I was scared to rent the Jaguar! Is that crazy? I thought it had a better chance of getting stolen and would be more expensive if I happened to wreck it. I told the guy, "I don't think I'm a jaguar girl." and hopped in the Chrysler. Which was actually a really fun car, too.
Chrysler girl :)
This was our cute house.
I loved it so much!
It's an older house, but the owner did a great
job updating it. I love this kitchen.
It had three bedrooms, so we each had our own space,
which was nice.
It was less than a ten minute walk to the beach.
Our first time walking there, we saw these cool ibis (?) along the way.
The water was super choppy.
So many breakers!
There was a little boardwalk amusement park nearby,
but it hadn't opened for the season yet.
They have lots of these rock jetty's (?) where you can
walk out. We saw several people fishing off them.
We had dinner with a view at The Spot.
Yummy.
It's wildflower season and Texas.
In Galveston, parts of the cemetery were
FULL of these yellow wildflowers.
It was so pretty!
It must be a cemetery for rich people because
I've never seen so many huge obelisk and
statue headstones.
Aren't they pretty?
So cool.
Then we drove down to one of the historic areas of town
with gorgeous old homes and a beautiful church.
Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Bishop's Palace
This area has had several big hurricanes and floods,
so I was surprised to see how many historic homes
are still standing. And so cute.
I love elaborate doors and Galveston didn't disappoint.
Lots of cool doors!
At night, Destiny and I would play cards or games. Celeste would listen to acoustic guitar music on youtube. Chill and relaxing.
Every morning, Celeste wanted to workout first thing.
We did a 10 minute ab workout on the floor together.
Then walked down to the beach.
Celeste would go on a 30 minute run while
Destiny and I walked along the beach.
Neither of us runs.
I think all of us were happy with that arrangement.
Afterward, we rode the free ferry to Port Bolivar.
Lots of shipping freighters in the water along the way.
There's a lighthouse there.
Celeste helped us spot LOTS of dolphins along the way.
They are easier to spot with your eyes than with your camera.
Look toward the bottom right corner of this one second video. :)
Dolphins are so fun! I love them.
AND I didn't catch it on film, but I saw a dolphin jump
up out of the water and splash back down.
It's the first time I've seen that in the wild.
So cool!
Also saw some cool birds.
It was a fun way to spend our morning.
After lunch, Destiny and I headed down to the beach.
Even though our house was in walking distance to the beach,
that nearby area was kinda dirty and didn't look great.
So we drove about 10 minutes to Stewart Beach.
I'm glad we did. It was a great place to spend the afternoon.
We brought books and magazines along to read and relax.
But we ended up just talking for three hours while
we soaked up the sun. Celeste had no interest in
joining us, but Destiny and I LOVED it.
We went out for YUMMY Mexican food that night at Salsas.
And as an added bonus, they had a live mariachi band playing.
SO FUN!
Guantanamera is a classic!
We heard this around our house growing up.
Love spending time with these two.
Lots of laughs.
So fun!!I love each of your big smiles. And those DOORS are awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip and idea! I might need to talk my siblings into doing this one day too! And I can't believe you didn't pick the Jag! lol
ReplyDeleteSo funny that you didn't want to rent the Jaguar! That's cool that Celeste will be in North Carolina. Looks like a fun trip!
