What January Looked Like

Glenda brought play-doh to one of our YW
Sunday lessons.
Care Bear made a cool snake with some eggs.

I made a cat. :)

After a gloriously warm December,
winter came to get us in January.
It was so cold and we had several snow storms.

Luckily, they weren't too bad.
We didn't lose power or have any trees come down.

Sweet Frog with the girls.

Drew's health history keeps growing and growing.
After suffering through pain in his heels for almost
two years now, he finally had surgery to repair the right one.

The surgery went well. His surgeon was happy
with the results. There were no complications with coming out of
anesthesia. But he did fall asleep with a teddy graham in
his mouth, which I found hilariously entertaining.

He bounced back quickly. :)

His last surgery took place when COVID restrictions
didn't allow any guests in the hospital.
So happy I could be with him during
recovery this time around.

We had to buy a walker.

He was off of work for seven working days.
He spent most of his time with his foot elevated
in the guest room. The pain was very manageable,
but the recovery has been SLOW.
And he couldn't drive for over a month!

Decorating the bulletin board for YW.

I ran into Janae at the temple randomly.
So fun.
We went out to lunch afterward.

Andrew and I got to speak via Zoom to all the missionaries
in the Raleigh NC mission. It was so fun! One of Reagan's friends
is serving here and he snapped this pic and shared with her. :)

Another snow storm.
And we saw deer tracks in our front yard!
What???
Now I know who has been eating my day lillies!
What do I do about that?

Whitney helped me cut out squares from Andrew's old
jeans to make a jean quilt. It's gonna be super simple
and can be used as a picnic blanket. No backing.

B-train was featured on Contact's employee page.
He's so cute.
And his hair is too long.

The girls had two teacher workdays in Jan.
I planned a long weekend getaway to Savannah, GA.
But the stupid winter weather thwarted my plans.
Boo.
So instead, we did a little staycation on one of the days.
We stopped in Burlington.

Shopped at Owl and Rabbit, one of our favorite
art stores there.
The girls got art-o-mats.

Look at all that snow!

We ate at the Lost Cajun, one of our favorites.

Love the beignets!

We also signed up for a private aerial silks class for the three of us.
Oh my goodness.
I didn't know what I was getting myself into.
Caroline and Sabrina make it look so easy!
It is not!

Hanging upside down is pretty fun.

This picture cracks me up.
Both my girls are so flexible.
Me? Not so much.

Beautiful!
(And it cracks me up that this studio has a kitchen on the side.)

Graceful!

Silking takes muscles that I just don't have.
I was sore for DAYS afterward.

But it was fun to have a taste of Caroline's new passion.

We found out there's an art-o-mat at Revolution Mill, too.
We stopped by to nab some more art.
It was NOT easy to find and that place is HUGE.
We had to wander around, but eventually found it.

It's a really cool office space!
Avery actually has work space here that Andrew had
access to for a while when he was transitioning to working
from home.

And the last stop in our staycation: Thriting!
We all found some good stuff that we were happy with.
Yay!

You never know what you're going to find at Goodwill!

More and more and more snow.
Ugh.

The guineas getting a bath.

They look so cute and helpless and kinda pitiful.

Finally got to go back to the temple with Andrew.
They had done some remodeling and were closed
for a couple of months. And it's really hard to get
an appointment. So happy we could be there together.

During finals week at school,
Whit had a couple of days without tests,
so she was free. We spent one day together
exploring Winston-Salem.
I didn't do the best job taking pics, but
we had a fantastic time.
Eating dessert outside of Black Mountain Chocolate.

One of my very favorite restaurants, Alma Mexicana.
It was closed for A LONG time after COVID, so I
was afraid they weren't coming back, but they did. Yay!

One of the places I wanted to take Whit was
SECCA--The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art.
Creative people are amazing.
We loved walking around the galleries.
And we got to help judge a photo contest.

We spent a little time outside of SECCA throwing
sticks into the frozen pond. :)

We also ate delicious crepes at Penny Path Cafe and
walked around Reynolda Village for a little while.

Whit crocheted an adorable little bumble-bee colored
sack for the piggies. They'll grow out of it soon.

Peanut butter cup art

Exploring some parks around town,
looking for another scavenger hunt.

Another puzzle completed.

Some cute pics of the piggies
Peek-a-boo
I tried to make a cardboard maze for them.
They weren't amused.

We like to play with them on the stoop
outside my bedroom door.

Not loving the maze :)

Cuddles!

Seriously?
More snow?
And it was always on the weekends.
I think church was cancelled for 3 of the 4 Sundays in Jan.
Ridiculous.

My newest puzzle that Andrew got me for Christmas.
Reminiscent of cruising!!!

Since we were stuck at home, I talked Whit into watching
the Anne of Green Gables series with me. The first one is SOOOO
good. And the second one is pretty good, too. And the third one
is just crazy. Have you seen it? There are some really weird
plot twists.

  1. The piggies! The teddy graham on poor Andrew! Aerial silks!(my left knee now pops every with single step I take because of my brief foray into aerial silks)awesome jean quilt, beautiful photos with the girls, love it all! One year deer ate all my tulips. They made such perfectly straight precision lines I thought someone had cut them off with scissors. But they never returned. It's weird to think deer are traipsing around our yards when we aren't looking!
