Reverse order again...
Ugh...
Happy New Year!
As is the tradition more often than we'd like,
Andrew had surgery to welcome in the new year.
This time, he had his left achilles repaired.
Since he had his right one done in January,
we kind of know what to expect.
Mainly, a LONG recovery.
Since he was having surgery and I knew we wouldn't be much fun for New Year's, I told the kids that they could make plans with friends. B was with his friends, but the girls decided to just hang out at home.
We celebrated with Martinelli's.
Yippee!!
We also opened poppers that had little flutes inside.
They were LOW quality flutes.
But we had fun trying to make songs with them.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas. :)
Before B left, we played some Jackbox together.
I forgot how fun Zeeple Dome is!
We hadn't played it in forever and had a blast.
I bought a family Lego set.
It's a Christmasy penguin.
My favorite part, though, was this snowflake
that you make, which then gets hidden in
the base of the penguin! You can't even see it!
VR fun
These two were cracking each other up.
These two beauties got to go to a church
New Year's Eve dance together.
The theme was black-and-white.
Nailed it.
After caretaking for Andrew for a couple of days,
I had the chance to do some solo birding while
the kids were at home and could help him if needed.
It was a beautiful evening.
Woodpecker
There were some cool water birds out there,
but they were too far away.
Dubs and I did this puzzle that my parents
gave us for Christmas.
Get-well flowers from Andrew's parents.
He survived another surgery!
I'm losing count of how many he's had now.
I think this might have been his eighth??
Anesthesia went well. No issues coming out of it.
He DID say super nice things about me to the
nurses again. One of them had to come around
and meet me afterward. :)
We always have to get there at the crack of dawn.
I may have eaten the leftover cheesecake
right out of the pan....
Bird of prey...
I'm so bad at identifying them
We squoze in a quick tennis date
before surgery. Oh, how I'll miss
playing with him for the next several months.
We had a white elephant gift exchange with
my preschool friends. I got this lovely holiday apron.
Gas was cheap for a while in December!
The big kids flew into Charlotte.
Andrew was gone on a work trip to CA,
so Care Bear and I drove down to pick them up.
Light the World had their mobile giving
machines in Charlotte, so we stopped by.
We bought a goat and various other fun things
for families in need.
Such a cool way to get people to serve.
You know you've taken your birding hobby too far
when a bird FLIES INTO YOUR HOUSE.
Someone did the 12 days of Christmas
for me this year! It was THE BEST!
It was SO much fun to look forward
to getting a little gift each day.
Caramel apple--yum!
Each one had a little ornament with one
of Christ's names on it. So thoughtful.
The kiddos flew out of SLC, so they
stopped to see Gma and Gpa on their way.
They got to help Gma make this pinata.
Girls Night Out with my preschool friends!
Me, Martha, Shani, Bea, Laura, Jayne
Sister Bowen, Rose, and Sister Parker
all came out to support Caroline at her
school chorus concert. So sweet!
She's in the middle row on the far left.
Carol of the Bells
Another day of Christmas gift
Natalie and I, along with another friend, Sara, played
Rackets and Jackets together this winter.
I thought we would be such a good team!
Unfortunately, my friends Elisabeth and Stephanie
put together an even better team. And we got our
butts kicked all season. Boo.
But we had fun.
This was our last match:
Steph, Natalie, Me, and Elisabeth.
Ready for Whit to get home and start puzzling with me.
Spare Time date night
I apparently kicked butt in Duolingo this year.
Top 2% of Spanish learners!
Woot!
That makes me a Learning Legend.
Just don't aske me to conjugate verbs...
The upstairs tree
A downy woodpecker on our suet feeder
All ready for Christmas!
With our snowman filter
And penguins
And snowflakes
Caroline had a field trip, so Andrew and I went
downtown by ourselves to the Festival of Lights.
Bought some reusable dryer balls for Bear.
It's such a fun event with tons of
people in the streets.
Lasers
Fake snow since we didn't see a single
flake around here all winter long.
We got to watch Whitney's chorus concert virtually.
I'm so happy she could be in chorus this semester!
And I'm happy they stream the concerts.
