Barb's other request when she agreed to drive across
the country with me:
She wanted to go to Kirtland, OH.
Neither of us had ever been.
Soon after we planned our trip, it was announced
that our church acquired the Kirtland Temple
from the Community of Christ. How cool!
We'd be able to tour with missionaries of our own faith!
And I'm also grateful for the Community of Christ
members who have been the caretakers of this temple
for so many years. They did a great job.
Look at this beautiful landscaping.
We loved touring it.
These pulpits are awesome.
One of the rooms
Cool windows
The first temple of the restoration!
Also toured the nearby Joseph and Emma Smith Home.
That evening we stopped by Headland Dunes
State Nature Preserve on Lake Erie.
So pretty!
Grandma's getting air!
Look close!
Watched the sunset.
Drove by Avery-Dennison's division
headquarters in nearby Mentor, OH
And then stopped by Jo jo's creamery for our daily ice cream.
This was the lobby of our hotel.
It was interesting...
The next day we toured more of Historic Kirtland.
The Whitney Store
The sawmill owned by Joel Hills Johnson,
one of the Sweat ancestors. So cool!
We drove out of town a ways to visit the
John and Elsa Johnson home.
Check out those doors!
And that flooring is awesome!
I can't remember the significant things that happened
here in church history--another reason to not wait a
year before blogging! :0
When I saw that we would be going through
Canton, OH, I decided we should stop at the
Pro Football Hall of Fame!
Pro Football Hall of Fame!
We're both big football fans!
But then I saw that tickets were $100...
Hmmm.... How badly did we actually want to go?
One of our "slush funds" for travel is just an
envelope of cash that I keep when I get cashback
on my credit card. I told Barb, if I have $200
left by the time we get to Canton, I'm
getting us both tickets to the Hall of Fame.
And it worked out perfectly!
Yippee!!
I had SO MUCH fun walking around.
It's a GREAT museum.
I took a billion pics.
But I'll only share half a billion. Ha!
The replay booth feature was fun.
I also loved seeing the Super Bowl rings.
And how they've changed over the years.
Drew Brees! <3
Taysom!
Puca!
Lamar!
Such a fun experience!
We had to go into a sketchy part of town for
our ice cream that night. It was one of those
times that I was grateful to see the car was
still there when we got back. Yikes.
Don't know that I can recommend Taggart's.
The ice cream was good, though.
And the next morning was our last day of driving!
Stopped at Tamarack,
a big huge maker market in WV.
They sell ice cream!
Our last of the trip!
Also took some windy backroads to get to
Big Walker Lookout.
You can pay to go up those rickety stairs behind us.
I totally would have done it if we weren't in
such a rush to get home that day.
We also got to listen to a good ol' bluegrass or mountain
music band outside for a bit.
And that'll do it!
This year's trip was 6840 miles.
So much fun.
Oh, what a treasure to get to drive across the country, take in all the beauty of creation, spend so much time with my family, and visit loved ones that we don't see nearly enough.

I love that you and Mom were at the football hall of fame together, that's awesome! The photos of Kirtland are so cute. It feels like I'm looking at photos of mini replicas.
