Southern Arizona in December = Paradise

Jonas and Carly have been dating for a while now. When Jonas came out to tour Duke as a possibility for grad school, we got to meet her. We were so happy for them when they got engaged. And were thrilled for an excuse to go to Arizona and be with family over the new year. Brandon couldn't make it, but the rest of us loved our time there.

We went out early and had some time with just the four of us before everyone else arrived.

Desert airport vibes

Our first stop was a restaurant that Jayne recommended,
Ghost Ranch
Oh, it was a hit!

We played our word games around the table while
we waited for our food.
Andrew got wordle in ONE!!!
What the heck?

The food was FABULOUS.
Highly, highly recommend!

Andrew said his was the best food he'd ever had.

Did a little birding, of course.
I think this is a ring-necked duck...

Also found a desert park to walk around,
look for birds, and take fun pics.
Desert girl!

DESERT SUNSETS!!!!

Bursting with joy

It's hard to do silhouette shots in NC--
too many trees.

That night we went to see the nativities and
Christmas lights at the Mesa Temple.
So fun!

We had to wait in a fairly long line at the visitors center
to see the nativities. But it was so worth it.
They were amazing--tons of them from all
over the world!

People are just so creative!
I love to see their expressions of faith
and the way they tie in with their culture.

The next day we went to ASU campus and walked around a bit.
It was another beautiful day in paradise
and we enjoyed walking around.

After that, we headed down to Tempe Town Lake.
What a fun place to explore!

We rented a surrey and rode it all around.

It was so fun!

Andrew's head touched the roof.

We switched off with the girls
and let them steer for a while.

I don't remember ever doing this before.
It was fun. And kind of tiring.

Within walking distance, there's a Center for the Arts.
They have performances there, but also have a small
museum. The girls and I enjoyed walking around it.
The same sculptor who did this piece has some pieces
in Greensboro! Small world!

Stopped for yummy Mexican food at Filiberto's.
